Most Covey programs focus on making progress over years. By comparison, a week at iCan Shine Bike Camp is an instant success!
Covey partners with iCan Shine to teach people with developmental disabilities to ride a two-wheeled bike. It all happens during an intense one-week course. With only 5 or 6 participants per session, each rider has 2 dedicated volunteers for support and encouragement. It’s a huge accomplishment for our riders, and we’re lucky to have wonderful volunteers who are dedicated to each rider’s success.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS ON BIKES
When an iCan Shine camper learns to ride a bike, it opens up so many doors. The whole family can start a tradition of pedaling to the park or going on rides around the neighborhood together. It’s great for hanging out with friends and strengthening peer relationships, too. Biking is also a form of transportation, and the ability to get from Point A to Point B is a key step on the path to independence.
By the end of June, Covey will have plenty of new riders on “two-wheelers!”
